Introduction to Artist to Artist: professional development for emerging and experienced teaching artists

Big Idea: Explore how the Artist to Artist framework expands and deepens one’s practice as a teaching artist.

Essential Questions:
  • How does learning alongside your peers in a critical friends group deepen your own teaching and learning?
  • What is the value of using a reflective protocol in your own practice?
  • What does an inquiry-based residency and/or lesson look like?
  • What happens when you stop and reflect with learners along the way?

Learning Goals:
  • Participants gain a better understanding how reflective protocols can guide planning and reflection.
  • Participants experience how reflective protocols can function as a teaching strategy inside a lesson.
  • Participants start to understand how to make the often intuitive process of teaching more explicit.

Evidence of learning:
  • Participants are able to name specific ways that this experience connects to their own work at whatever stage they are at as teaching artists.
  • Participants raise a lot of questions about what is next and how they might proceed.
