The Multicultural Voices (MCV) Initiative is a growing list of print and electronic resources, a burgeoning network of artists who model multicultural learning experiences, and a small cadre of peer coaches who are skilled facilitators of key learning processes (Critical Response and Descriptive Review) that are designed to help participants uncover their own assumptions and raise questions. Enduring Understanding: Creating an environment in and through the arts for all voices to come forward! Essential Questions: —How do we perceive deeply? —What is the value of deferring judgment? Of taking a neutral stance? —How do we learn about others' perspectives? —How do we use the arts to surface multiple perspectives, hidden assumptions, hidden bias, and critical questions? —How do we appropriately and effectively develop and deliver culturally responsive curriculum? Windows and Mirrors: "All students deserve a curriculum that mirrors their own experience back to them, upon occasion—thus validating it in the public world of the school. But the curriculum must also insist upon the fresh air of windows into the experience of others—who also need and deserve the public validation of the school curriculum."
